GRR: Washington State University
The idea that college rugby conferences should follow college sports conferences in other sports isn't new, nor should it be followed universally, but it does have merit in specific areas.
Western Washington and Washington State lead the field after Day One of the Men’s NCRC 7s in Pullman, WA.
WWU went 3-0, defeating Washington 43-7, Eastern Washington 19-12, Oregon 42-0. In the seller Pool B, WSU needed just two victories, but both of them were close. The Cougars beat Boise State 12-5 and Oregon State 24-19 to win the group.
The University of Washington Huskies defeated Washington State 29-12 to close out the NCRC regular season.
UW also took bragging rights in the Apple Cup rivalry game. But more important is that Washington now has a home semifinal game against those same WSU Cougars next week.
Tomorrow, University of Washington (North #2), Chico State (West #2), UC Berkeley (West #3), UCSD (South #1), UCLA (South #2), Washington State (North #1), Arizona State (South #3), and UC Davis (West #1) will be competing in the Pacific Mountain Rugby Conference playoffs and a place in the national Women's DI Spring Quarterfinals.
In a weekend of college rivalry games, University of Washington v Washington State is a pretty good one to watch.
