GRR: Vienna
Vienna defeated the Raleigh Redhawks 42-5 over the weekend, following up on a big win over Loudoun County the week before.
Gonzaga won the Gonzaga Classic and did so in fairly emphatic style, defeating Fort Hunt 45-3 in the championship game.
Aspetuck came back from a 28-22 to defeat #16 Vienna in Virginia.
Aspetuck used their quick forwards to secure ball and recycle smartly as they built an early 8-0 lead. Using the power running of Matt Weiner and Amari Phillips, the Aspetuck forwards were quick to get over the ball and keep marching down the field.
Vienna took on both the Clayton Rugby Club and Raleigh Redhawks over the weekend, although it all didn't quite go as expected.
Vienna did well, and beat both teams, but because of heavy winter weather in North Carolina early in the weekend, Raleigh's home pitch was closed, forcing a change in that game from Saturday to Sunday.
Vienna looked impressive with a 36-3 defeat of West End Saturday in Rugby Virginia action.
The two teams have a good rivalry going. Both have built their programs starting with youth. And last year the two teams met in the Rugby Virginia semifinals, with Vienna winning 5-0.
