GRR: USA U18s
Scrutiny, pressure, and perhaps some expectations are coming to bear upon several people involved with USA Rugby’s High Performance plans.
The USA Men’s High Performance Pathway is holding its finally talent ID assembly this week.
Both the Men's and Women's HP Pathway systems have much work to do as USA Rugby looks ahead to the 2024 and 2028 Olympics, the 2025 Women's Rugby World Cup, and the 2027 Men's Rugby World Cup.
The USA U18s won the Corendon Summer Tour U18 bracket with a 47-20 defeat of Belgium U18s.
The USA U20s beat a tough Netherlands team 31-27 to go 3-0 and win the U20 bracket in Amsterdam. Tia'i Vavao was named MVP of the tournament.
The USA U23s lost to Delta 22-16 in a game that, based on previous scores, would have been expected to be much more lopsided.
The USA U18s are set to play Belgium's U18s in their final game of the Corendon Summer Tour.
Despite the fact that the USA is 2-0 and Belgium is 0-2, this cannot be looked at as an easy game. Belgium has lost to Netherlands and Canada, but both games were decided by less than a try.
After a short turnaround the USA U18s and U20s both won well in the second round of the Corendon Summer Tour in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
The USA U23s did not have a game Wednesday and are in the middle of preparations to play Delta on Saturday. (Delta is a Dutch-based franchise playing in the Rugby Europe Super Cup, which starts its season in September.)
