Carlsbad defeated Servite 29-7 in the final of Southern California’s Varsity White competition Sunday afternoon, culminating an impressive run through the playoffs.
Carlsbad beat Los Alamitos and Murrieta Valley in the playoffs while Servite won big over Corona Centennial and La Jolla and looked set to challenge Carlsbad with their speed.
Six teams are looking for single-school championships this weekend in California.
The SCIRF league of teams looking to follow California Interscholastic Federation rules, sees St. Augustine play San Clemente in the final.
It will be Servite vs Carlsbad in the Southern California Varsity White final after both won semifinal games Friday night.
Servite slammed La Jolla 57-12 in a showcase of their athleticism and power.
Undefeated Carlsbad Thunder will not be able to play in Southern California’s Varsity White playoffs because the team suited up two players who required a waiver to participate, and failed to get them a waiver until well into the season.
The Carlsbad Thunder moved to 3-0 in the Southern California Varsity White San Diego North Division with a 29-17 defeat of previously 2-0 San Pasqual.
The victory was led by some excellent work from hooker Robbie Becker, prop Will Fox and center Jesse Atiga, with good games also from wing Jacob Jenkins, center Michael Cuarenta, and flanker Tim Howell.
