A year ago Thunder Rugby went to Boys HS National Championships underrated and won it all.
Coming of a tough loss against Belmont Shore, the SOC Raptors managed to edge Thunder 31-26, defeating the defending national HS club champions and making it clear that Southern California is competitive throughout.
The Woodlands is on tour in California and produced a series of a solid results on the road.
On Sunday Woodlands played the San Diego Legion Crusaders U19 Academy side at Chula Vista. While a score was reported this was a short session based on set piece and not a full game. No kicks, and lots of set piece work. Woodlands scored three tries and gave up one.
In a competitive and intense night of rugby Carlsbad took the Southern California Open Division school title with a 22-12 victory over St. Anthony's.
The teams played shortened games on the night, with Carlsbad defeating La Jolla 26-7 and St. Anthony's edging Crean 19-14. Crean beat La Jolla 28-7 to take third.
Carlsbad defeated St. Anthony's 43-7 Saturday, moving to 3-0 in SoCal Youth Rugby's Open Division.
The game was might tighter than the score reflects, with St. Anthony's center Sone Aupio causing Carlsbad plenty of problems when he had the ball.
