Christendom’s run to a national Small College championship last year was not a fluke.
Certainly paced by some significant talent and a forward pack that reminded us that the “small” in Small College meant the size of enrollment not the size of the athletes, the Crusaders were a force in 2021.
But the big question is, how do they compare this year?
Penn State Berks pulled off a key 20-12 victory over Gettysburg over the weekend to take sole possession of 1st place in the Small College Keystone Conference.
Led by the try-scoring acumen of Nate Chin, Josue Garcia, and Will Jackson, Berks was able to contain Gettysburg's very dangerous Ben Murphy, who is the conference try leader.
The two top men's small college teams will face off this coming weekend.
Franciscan and Slippery Rock are both 4-0 in conference play and are set for a massive clash this weekend.
The Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference small-college scene is a little confused because the small-college teams mix up with the D2 teams, but the top smaller teams are coming to the fore.
Susquehanna, Penn State Berks, Widener, Catholic, and Gettysburg are all still undefeated and could well all make a splash on the national scene.
