GRR: Small Colleges
It has been a few years of battling for Wayne State to get their D3/Small College NCR title.
Three straight years of heartbreak had to hurt.
Wayne State returns to the NCR D3 (previously Small College) final after a close loss to Babson in 2023.
The Wildcats unleashed their pace and intent early to score eight tries, running out to a 22-0 lead over Colorado School of Mines and cruised to a 46-15 win.
The roots of NCR are in the small colleges, and it’s there that the entity-previously-known-as-NSCRO set out its shingle.
And while we at GRR end up talking a lot more about the D1, D1AA, and D2 brackets, for NCR really it’s D3 (what used to be Small Colleges) that made the organization.
There is not Small College division in NCR anymore, but really there still is; it's just called D3.
Still when we're talking about "last year" or anything historical, we're talking about NCR's Small College competition. And this year, we're talking about D3.
(NCR Release)—National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) has appointed Zach Lanning as the new Men's Small College Commissioner.
Lanning will lead the Competitions Committee for the 250 Small College teams across the country and manage the national playoffs and championship pathways for both the 15s and 7s seasons. Lanning will report to the Men’s Competition Director, Brad Dufek.
