GRR: Rugby Montana
Bozeman, Mon. – Montana is set to host its first-ever Montana Invitational High School Rugby Tournament in April.
This is an exciting new tournament bringing together high school teams from across the country. The tournament will take place on April 26-27, 2025 at the Bozeman Sports Park Complex. Teams from Hawaii, Colorado, Arizona, Montana, Utah and Washington already confirmed.
They left it late, but not too late.
The Washington Loggers scored twice in the waning moments to defeat Montana 12-5 in tje Girls U19 final of the Great Northwest Challenge Saturday in Missoula, Mont.
The two teams had been on a collision course throughout the weekend. Somewhat different, Montana and Washington featured some notable talent.
Washington will play Montana in the Great Northwest Challenge girls final Saturday afternoon.
All of that was finalized Saturday morning when Washington tool care of a lucky Arizona team 17-5.
The format of the event was for all eight (originally) teams and then six to play three pool matches, with the top two based on record making the final.
We crowned a few state champions over the weekend and learned who will be battling for a couple more.
In addition, we had a couple of key games that likely have an effect on HS National Championship seedings. Here's a look.
Kalispell's Black and Blue boys team won the Rugby Montana boys HS title last month with a 38-10 defeat of Missoula.
Black and Blue started quickly with a try from No. 8 Alec Thomas. Scrumhalf Fin Nadeau scored the second try and then Thomas and Nadeau linked up with flyhalf Nolan White for the third try, which was set up by the pack winning the scrum against the head.
