GRR: Roger Williams
Bentley College goes into Week 2 of Rugby Northeast with a second-straight difficult game, but also with a shot of confidence.
The Falcons defeated UMass-Lowell 17-3 last week in a clash of two teams that finished the conference 6-2 last season. It was an excellent start to a team that is thinking conference title.
Roger Williams is enjoying its foray into a new conference, as the Hawks have started 2-0 in the Rugby Northeast, defeating Providence in the opening weekend, and then slamming UMass Lowell 46-12 this past weekend.
It took three years, but Roger Williams finally has its trophy. After second- and fourth-place finishes at the previous two championships, the Rhode Island team took home the women’s National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO) title after back-to-back victories against UM Moorhead and Sacred Heart.
Roger Williams defeated Central Connecticut 40-36 to gain a place in the national DII College Round of 16 Saturday, scoring on the last play of the game.
CCSU led in the first half as they used their size advantage and solid forward play to push RWU back. And with a smart kicking game the Hooligans pinned RWU back in their 22.
“It was a strong defensive effort from my boys,” said Head Coach Chris Palombo.
