GRR: Red Mountain
Tempe defeated Red Mountain in the Arizona Boys HS D1 final Friday night, taking the game and the championship 34-21.
It was a windy evening and Red Mountain started with the breeze at their backs. However, they had difficulty making it work for them. An eager Tempe defense put pressure on Red Mountain and that produced turnovers and mistakes.
Teams from Utah as well as Arizona and Hawai’i converged on St. Georgia in Southern Utah to play the Puriri Memorial Invitational over the weekend.
Red Mountain opened up their Arizona league season with a 34-17 defeat of rivals Tempe.
This was a turnaround for Red Mountain, as Tempe has been on top of the rivalry for several years. However, Tempe is fairly young—and certainly struggled with playing as a unit until later in the game—while Red Mountain has come together a little bit better.
Tempe took it to Red Mountain to win the Arizona Boys HS D1 state championship Saturdaym defeating their longtime rivals 64-12.
The setting couldn’t have been better for another chapter of the intense rivalry game, with beautiful weather, perfect green grass pitch (not normal for AZ), and everything on the line for the state championship.
Tempe defeated in-state rivals Red Mountain in emphatic fashion Thursday night.
The Top-10-ranked Tempe beat Red Mountain 54-7.
