GRR: Pacific West Conference
There's the little matter, Saturday, of the DIAA Men's final between UC Davis and Central Florida.
We're down to the DIAA quarterfinals, and by the end of the weekend we will have the final two teams for the May 9 final at Kennesaw State University.
It's a mishmash of teams in the QFs, as some teams qualified last fall, some recently, and some when they were least expected to. Here's a look at the teams, the matchups, and our picks.
UC Davis finished off their Pacific West Conference season with a nice, neat 10-0 record thanks to a 2-0 playoff weekend.
Davis was clinical in the extreme in downing Sacramento State on Saturday, and then dispatched Chico State 40-10 in a game many (such as Goff Rugby Report) thought would be much closer.
Way back on January 24 UC Davis beat Chico State 18-15 in the first round of the Pacific Western conference - and it may well be that the conference ends with the same matchup.
With their 41-28 defeat of Stanford, Chico State is now firmly in 2nd place in the Pacific West DIAA Conference, and have UC Davis in their sights.
Davis, of course, won the first-round meeting between the two teams 18-15, and that might have set the tone for Chico State’s season. But they have the playoffs in April to redeem themselves, and they think they can.
