GRR: Northern California
In a game that lived up to the pre-game expectations, the Danville Oaks won the Northern California multi-school Varsity Gold championship 34-31 over Granite Bay.
Playing at Pat Vincent Field at St. Mary’s College, the #1-ranked HS club (Danville) and the #3 club (Granite Bay) played a hugely dramatic, and well-played final.
More than one Boys HS championship game will be played in Moraga, Calif. this weekend as the Varsity Silver final will see Bishop O’Dowd face off with North Sacramento.
Danville will play Granite Bay for the championship of Northern California’s multi-school division next Saturday after both won semifinals Sunday at the Cherry Island Sports Complex in Rio Linda.
The semifinalists for the Northern California Boys multi-school division are set as Granite Bay, Hayward, and Peninsula Green all won Saturday.
Those three join Danville, who had a bye, into the Sunday’s semifinals.
Jesuit HS of Sacramento won the Northern California single-school title Saturday as expected, but it wasn’t anywhere near as comfortable as expect.
Jesuit had to come from behind to beat Dixon 17-15 Saturday morning in Rio Linda, Calif.
