GRR: New England Wide Conference
The New England-Wide Collegiate Rugby Conference has expanded as four teams from the Rugby Northeast have joined.
With New England College and Middlebury moving to a small-college division, only four teams were left in the RNE. Those four teams—Norwich, UMass Lowell, Bentley, and Providence—all then moved to the NEWCRC because the Rugby Northeast was too small.
In a month the USA Rugby Men's DII College playoffs start, and there are still some seeds and spots to be confirmed.
Is it a three-team race in the NEWCRC?
Maybe.
We’re two weeks into the New England-Wide Conference, and three teams in the Tier 1 are undefeated. Hope is not lost for the rest of the teams, but they’ll need a little bit of help.
Sacred Heart, which won the Tri-State Conference in the fall of 2016 and finished 2nd in 2017, is shifting to the New England Wide Conference for the 2017-18 season.
Head Coach Ray Peterson said that the move was precipitated by a desire for more consistent competition, and also travel considerations.
