GRR: New England Wide Conference
The Colonial Coast and the NEWCRC conferences will be combining forces to create the North Atlantic Collegiate Conference.
The thinking behind this move is multi-fold.
Scores are coming in this Men's DII College weekend and some major ramifications are underway.
Maine defeated Vermont 27-20 in the NEWCRC. Led by 22 points from Shea Wagner, who scored three tries and added two conversions and a penalty, the Black Bears put themselves in excellent position to win the conference.
It's weird times in the NEWCRC.
After being touted quite heavily in these pages for its competitiveness top to bottom, the league has in fact split rather dramatically. The bottom half of the standings is now struggling and it's really a case of some teams going through some rebuilding at the same time that others are returning the majority of really good units.
Bumped over to D2 from Small College by NCR, the University of Maine wasn't sure about where they would fit in the NEWCRC order.
Turning heads this past week in Men's DII college rugby was University of Vermont, which dismissed a very capable UMass Lowell side 38-0.
No one doubts that the New England Wide Collegiate Rugby Conference is a difficult conference, so to win a game by that margin (the two teams tied in their match last year) is definitely worth a closer look.
