GRR: MLR Draft
(Op-Ed by Dave Miller)—After watching Goff Rugby Report’s four-part series on college rugby, it's saddening to see the continued disintegration of college rugby between National Collegiate Rugby and CRAA, as it carries implications on the growth of the game; the culture of our sport; the opportunity of player development, and; the future potential of the Eagles.
The MLR Rising week finished off Friday with a game between Red and Black, and a visit to the USA vs Scotland test match where they were introduced at halftime.
Wednesday night's evening session was, unfortunately, canceled due to lightning.
The MLR Rising camp is in its second full day and third day overall; here's a look at what's been going on.
On Monday the players arrived and got acquainted, with the key activity of the day being some meetings. The central focus of the main meeting was to establish expectations for both players on one side and the coaches, scouts, and observers on the other.
The 50 players at MLR Rising are in camp.
There are three changes. Lindenwood prop Asher Webb, UBC scrumhalf Jacob Bourne, and Central Washington center Calvin Liulamaga all picked up injuries. Replacing them are two players from Saint Mary's, Lleyton Delzell and Hunter Chulhanstaff, and University of Ottawa's Jamie Armstrong.
