Over 150 rugby players have applied for the Major League Rugby draft, with 39 to be drafted and several more signed as undrafted free agents.
They will become, for a while at least, professional rugby players.

That’s the first thing. Players who might not have received a lot of notice moving into MLR Draft time got a chance to be seen doing good things. For many of them it’s not necessarily about being drafted, but perhaps about being signed as an undrafted free agent.
The Collegiate Rugby Shield kicks off tonight at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah at 7PM ET.
This is a sort of scouting bowl for players who want to be seen before the Major League Rugby draft, although not every player has applied for the draft. Some just want to see where they stand.
