GRR: Mira Costa
The Los Angeles conference of the Southern California Varsity Red competition kicked off Friday with Mira Costa taking down Redondo Union 55-5.
After graduating 13 of their starting 15 from last year, the Mustangs have had some serious rebuilding to do. However, the new-look Mustangs handled the day just fine against a Redondo Seahawks playing their first varsity rugby game ever.
While one of the Southern California Varsity Red semifinal scorelines was relatively one-sided (La Costa Canyon Rolls to Varsity Red Final), the other, held Saturday night, was as tight as possible.
It's playoff time in Southern California for the Varsity brackets.
In Varsity Red, which is the league for fully, 100% single-school teams, we're down to the top four after the final games decided who was 1st and who 2nd in the two divisions.
Mira Costa Takes 1st in LA Varsity Red
The Mira Costa Mustangs clinched 1st in the Los Angeles conference of the Southern California Varsity Red division with 39-10 defeat of St. John Bosco
Both Mira Costa and Bosco went into the game undefeated in league play at 4-0. Both were already securely in the Varsity Red semifinals, but a win here would give the victors home field advantage.
One more week in the Southern California Varsity Red divisions - the division for 100% single-school teams.
We know who will be in the playoffs, and Mira Costa and St. John Bosco lead the Los Angeles division, and La Costa Canyon and Torrey Pines lead in San Diego. It now all comes down to who will be 1st.
St. John Bosco defeated Citrus Valley 52-5 to move to 4-0.
