GRR: Minnesota Youth Rugby
Edina won the Boys DI HS championship in Minnesota in dramatic fashion, scoring a late try to go up by one and then holding off Duluth in a furious goal-line stand to end the game.
"This was like one of those Hollywood endings," said Edina Coach Chris Babiash. "Just an amazing game."
It’s Duluth against Edina this Saturday for the Minnesota Boys DI championship after both escaped very difficult semifinals last weekend.
Duluth (aka North Shore) held off Hopkins 21-12.
“It was not an easy match,” said Duluth Coach Andy Imig. “They were two well-matched teams. We basically retained the ball a little longer.”
Minnesota is down to the semis as Hopkins takes on North Shore (Duluth) and Edina faces Minnetonka.
Most of these teams have faced each other this season, but in non-conference games, as they all ended up winning their respective conferences.
Minnesota Youth Rugby’s most favored team, Edina, started off the season as expected, defeating STMA 80-5 Friday as a full slate of games in the state kicked off.
Head Coach Jimmy Hanson, who led the Armstrong team to a fifth-straight state championship in 15s, has been looking for a challenge for the summer, and has found it.
