GRR: Midwest Rugby Conference
Dustin Steedman is stepping down at Head Coach of Davenport University's men's rugby program.
Steedman is moving to Texas to take up a new business opportunity outside of rugby, and while he said he hopes to be involved in the game in the Houston area, he will be working full-time in commercial real estate.
One of the more intense rivalries in college rugby is back Saturday as Lindenwood faces Arkansas State.
After a year when ASU played as an independent, the Red Wolves and the Lions are back in the same conference as Arkansas State is now part of the two-year-old Midwest Conference. So this is also a conference game.
Midwest D1A Conference powerhouse Lindenwood University hosted an intense game on its home turf at Hunter Stadium on March 22 against the McKendree Bearcats. The final score of 44-12 underscored a satisfying victory for the Lions.
The game started off fairly even in the first half, as the teams traded tries and the Lions led only by the slim margin of 15-12.
The first two rounds in the new Midwest D1A Conference didn’t yield much in the way of drama, but we got it this past weekend.
Lindenwood and Davenport came into the game having both beaten Adrian and McKendree (those two meet this coming weekend) and ready for what has become a nicely heated rivalry match.
With the imminent dissolution of the Mid-South D1A Conference, a new conference will be formed for the 2023-24 collegiate season.
