GRR: Fort Hunt
Fort Hunt came out of the Jesuit Rugby Classic with A 3-1 and another jolt of confidence for this highly-regarded Virginia team.
For Coach Dale Roach, it was a gratifying experience, shutting out St. Xavier, Gonzaga’s 2nd side, and Greenwich, before losing 24-0 to Gonzaga’s 1sts in the final.
Fort Hunt’s solid tackling and pressure defense was on display through the weekend.
No surprise that Gonzaga HS won the Jesuit Rugby Classic, but there were a few notable results aside from that.
The Fort Hunt Warriors, ranked #28 among HS clubs by Goff Rugby Report, upset #11 West End this weekend in a game that turned many heads in Rugby Virginia.
The game was a wild one, with 88 points scored in total. Fort Hunt prevailed 57-31 thanks in large part to an outstanding performance by their back row of Gabe Rudasill, Chadi Adballa, and Max Dacey.
The Fort Hunt Warriors U19 team capped an unprecedented undefeated run through Virginia high school rugby with a 30-7 win over West End to lay claim to the Virginia State Championship.
Fort Hunt's Tom Brunt was MVP of the game and opened the scoring with a penalty, before prop Austin LaGow bulled over for the first try of the game. The Warriors went into the half with an 8-0 lead.
