GRR: Florida Youth Rugby
Pelham HS out of New York traveled to Florida and faced the Academy of Rugby Excellence (ARE).
ARE is a select-side made up of players from the Orlando, Tampa, Daytona, and Cape Pirates. As a select-side, ARE had its pick of talent in the area, but at the same time, Pelham was coming in as a relatively settled side.
Things are getting more and more interesting in the Florida Boys HS competition, as two teams that started a little slowly are now firing nicely.
It's a busy weekend around the country in Boys HS rugby, as some leagues are getting started, and others heading into playoff-decision time; here's a look:
St. Thomas Aquinas won 26-17 over Cardinal Gibbons this past weekend in Florida, cementing the team’s position as the DII Boys HS team in the state.
When the Florida Youth Rugby Boys DI league merged all of its pools to form on conference, the conventional wisdom was that the season would make going undefeated very difficult - travel, injury issues, and various other distractions would all have an influence - and in fact that wisdom was correct.
