Cal defeated UCLA 17-5 to win the PAC Conference 7s Sunday in a tournament shown live on the Pac-12 Networks.
Cal defeated Arizona State in the semis while UCLA got by Utah to make the championship game.
BERKELEY – With 32 tries scored and only one try surrendered during a 4-0 Saturday on Witter Rugby Field, Cal won their pool in impressive fashion in the PAC Rugby 7s Championship; meanwhile UCLA edged Arizona State to take Pool B.
Cal will take on Arizona State at 1:05pm Sunday, while UCLA will face Utah, the only team to score against Cal, in the other Cup Semifinal at 1:25pm.
Perhaps the most compelling college 7s tournament of the fall is happening this coming weekend at Cal’s Witter Rugby Field.
While Cal will be favored once again, the Bears will face stiff competition from a skilled and determined Arizona State team, a UCLA squad that has the ability to shake things up, and a Utah squad with a strong tradition in 7s.
The La Salle College High School Explorers won the RugbyPA boys HS 7s State Championship last week at Cumberland Valley HS.
The Explorers bested teams from Doylestown, Coventry, Gregory the Great Academy and Media to go an impressive 5-0 on the day and capture its first state title in the team’s three year history.
Union HS remains undefeated in Rugby Oregon’s fall HS 7s competition as the teams enter into the final weekend of regular competition.
Next week will see teams play for various trophies, but right now it’s still part of league play, and Union sits 12-0, just ahead of 10-1 Portland Pumas.
