High School Fall 7s Around The Country

Fall 7s in high school has been taking over the country, at least parts of the country, and has become an excellent way of recruiting young people to the game.

Every state does it differently; some have boys and girls and multiple divisions, some have just girls playing, and some make it just a low-intensity fun thing.

Here’s a look.

Utah

In a multiple-division championship, Herriman took the boys varsity title in a very close final against United.

United took the girls division in fairly dominant fashion. SLV Rhinos took boys D2 while South Davis looked very good in taking the girls D2.

Pennsylvania

The tournaments are in process now, with Bishops Shanahan and Berks among the top teams so far. A new club with an old name, Philly-Whitemarsh, has been showing well also.

Oregon

In Oregon, after the first two tournaments, Eastside Tsunami Black leads the standings among the boys with a 5-1 record. Also at 5-1 is Hilssboro/Forest Grove, with Union (4-2) and Oregon City (also 4-2) close behind.

Three girls teams lead, with Grackles, Highlanders, and the Valley Panthers all 5-0.

The girls tournament last week was halted early due to lightning, but there are three weeks of tournaments left and then the championship on October 26.

Indiana

The teams are playing now, but the games are non-competitive, and in fact, scores aren’t even tracked.

In a few weeks the championship tournament will be held and, yes, they will keep score.

Idaho

The girls series is in full swing. Rocky Mountain leads the series with a 9-1 record, with Nyah  Cordero, Makayla Debry, and Kennedy Watts all high in the scoring lists.

Meridien is right behind with a record of 8-1-1. Nesi Tuitama leads the league with 13 tries in 10 games.

Ohio

St. Ignatius (boys) is leading with Crusaders, Perrysburg, and Highlanders chasing. Ignatius, however, seems to be in control.

Colorado

The girls series has a bye week this week because of the Sevens World Series event in Glendale, Colo.

New Jersey

St. Augustine and Christian Brothers continue to be the main rivals in the Rugby NJ series. Last week they were off, but Morris should be hosting Sunday and there are two more events after that.

Girls don’t have regular competition, but the state pivots to an All-Star season building to the New York 7s and that’s when the girls get involved.

New York

Games are about to get started.
