Iscaro, 21, is a product of the rugby pathway of the greater DC area, having played his youth rugby with the Maryland Exiles program and his high school rugby with Gonzaga College High School, where he helped to earn two national championships before playing his college rugby at Cal. Upon graduating from college, Iscaro promptly signed a professional contract with his home-town Major League Rugby team, Old Glory DC. A standout front row during Old Glory’s 2019 exhibition season, Iscaro caught the attention of Scottish Rugby officials, who facilitated his invitation to join Glasgow for their pre-season training prior to their fall 2019/20 Guinness PRO14 campaign.
Glasgow Warriors’ Head of Rugby Operations, John Manson, who recently visited Old Glory DC on a consultancy basis, said: “Jack coming to Scotstoun to train in our environment is the first example of the partnership between Old Glory DC and Scottish Rugby being utilized from a talent perspective. It’s a great opportunity for an impressive young player to learn in a new setting, working closely with our coaches, trainers and playing squad.”
“Maryland Exiles to Gonzaga to Cal to Old Glory and now to Glasgow – Jack’s the perfect example of the rugby development pathway we want to grow,” said Old Glory owner Paul Sheehy. “The grass-roots rugby of the greater DC area, with the addition of Old Glory and our partnership with Scottish Rugby, will create a phenomenal set of opportunities for players coming through our system, as long as we organize it as effectively as we hope.”
“What an amazing opportunity for Jack,” added Old Glory Chairman Chris Dunlavey. “It’s every US rugby player’s dream. At a minimum, it’s certain to be a fantastic developmental experience for him, and it could only happen to a guy of the quality and character Jack exhibits.”
Iscaro, too, was happy with the hews.
“This is a great opportunity for me and I’d like to thank the coaches at Old Glory and Glasgow Warriors for facilitating this move," he said. "I’m really happy to be in Glasgow and I’m looking forward to the next few months with the Warriors.”
Glasgow Warriors compete in the Guinness PRO14 and Heineken Champions Cup and play their matches at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow. They have welcomed several USA players to their squad over the years, including Greg Peterson and Tevita Tameilau.
