Teams Bridge Coaching Gap at 7s Nationals
Both Central Washington and New England College will attend the Men's DI bracket of USA Rugby's College 7s Championships without a head coach, but all should be OK for the weekend regardless.
For NEC, nothing, really, has changed. The team got through the spring with Rupert Leeming and Aaron Warner coaching the team, and those two will still be at the helm of the Lions this week. Tal Bayer was named as NEC's new Head Coach but is not with the team yet as he is still making the move from Wheeling, WV where he was Head Coach of Wheeling Jesuit.
At Central Washington, Tony Pacheco's departure from CWU - announced last week - has meant the program has to fill in for him this weekend. According to Athletic Director Dr. Dennis Francois, graduate assistant Todd Thornley will lead the team in Cary, NC. Francois said he felt the Otago, NZ native will have little trouble overseeing the Wildcats' efforts this weekend, but he will also be relying heavily on the senior leadership of Tanner Barnes, Aladdin Schirmer, and Seth Halliman.
CWU, which just unveiled a new logo for the school's sports teams, will be launching its search for a new Head Coach as early as next week.
