Danville Wins Pacific Cup
Danville won the Pacific Cup HS Tournament with a convincing 42-10 defeat of Peninsula Green.
This was a much-anticipated meeting between the Northern California Varsity Premier Champion (Danville) and the NorCal DI winner (Pen Green). PG had hoped to unseat the Oaks but it didn't happen that was as Danville put together a complete performance.
"We controlled the game and on defense we also played well and turned over their ball," said Danville Head Coach Roy Helu, Sr.
Danville led 30-0 at one point and their power in the forwards allowed the Oaks to spread the ball when the opportunity arose. Wings Carlos Gomez and Jonathan Son scored two tries each as a result.
In other games in the Pacific Cup, Kahuku emerged 24-19 winners over Red Mountain in a tough, well-contested game to finish 3rd.
Bay Barbarians were impressive in beating CK McClatchy 27-17 to take 5th and finish 2-1. And Union HS came back from a 17-0 deficit to beat the San Diego Mustangs 38-17 to take 7th.
"We learned a lot here," said Union center David Curle. "We're kind of beat up and everything but it's been really good. We don't get this level of competition normally and it was something I know we can take back home and use to get better.
