Wisconsin Wins Big Ten Final
The University of Wisconsin won the Big Ten Saturday, defeating Ohio State 34-20 in the championship game.
Wisconsin finished 6-1 in Big Ten play, losing only to Michigan. The Badgers didn’t have the best record in the Big Ten, that belonged to Indiana, but IU was not eligible for the championship game because they used ineligible players last season.
So the game was between the Badgers and the Buckeyes. Wisconsin broke a 3-3 tie with a try from Neil Warren, but the game seemed destined to be a defensive battle as the score was 8-3 Wisconsin at halftime.
But things opened up quickly in the second period. After OSU kicked their second penalty, the Badgers got a try when Jack Goss raced through the OSU chase defense, and offloaded to Matoko Noudehou for a try and a 15-6 lead.
Ohio State came closer with a converted try from Santino Cua, but tries from Tyler Crass and Goss made it 29-13. Hunter Crass set up Jacob Syndergaard for a try that put Wisconsin up by three converted tries. OSU couldn’t bridge the gap, scoring once through Cua, but that was it.
Also Saturday, Iowa beat Michigan 36-31 to take 3rd. Iowa finished 5-2 on the season. Ohio State finished 4-3, as did Michigan.
Michigan State beat Minnesota for 5th. Ohio State defeated Indiana 35-17 in the B-side final. Ohio State’s B side were undefeated for the season.
