#6 Kutztown Faces #23 Penn State
Sixth-ranked Kutztown takes on #12 Penn State this weekend in the highest-ranked matchup of men’s DI rugby this weekend.
“We need to have a total team performance,” said Kutztown freshman back Nu’u Aiava, who was named Goff Rugby Report Player of the Week this week.
Kutztown defeated #25 Maryland last weekend, in a game where Head Coach was very happy to have Alex Faison-Donahoe back from injury.
“We know we can’t let up,” said Jones earlier this week.
Penn State captain Dan Metcalf said his Nittany Lions are improving.
New Head Coach Alf Daniels, who is signed on only for the fall season, has put in a new offensive system, and the team is starting to embrace it.
“It’s similar to the old pod system but has some differences,” said Metcalf. “And the second half against Buffalo we worked it as well as I’ve seen. We know this is going to be a tough game - Penn State and Kutztown always seem to play a big game late in the fall. But we know what we have to do.”
Meanwhile, Daily Collegian writer Mark Fischer wrote that Daniels’s future is uncertain as he has no guarantee that he will be back for the spring season. The decision to keep Daniels is up to the Penn State Athletics Department.
