Sam Houston State won the Lonestar Conference championship over the weekend, and did so in somewhat dominant fashion.

There were one or two surprises within the playoff weekend—teams played shortened quarterfinals and semifinals before a full-length final. North Texas beat Oklahoma in the quarterfinals, which was a little bit of a. surprise. Baylor shut out Texas State to make the final.

But SHSU, going in as the favorite, played as one.

Even as rain and thunder and lightning played havoc with the schedule, moving the semis to Sunday and making the whole even extremely muddy, the Bearkats did the job.

Two tries from power-running Corinthian Cormier led this shutout win for SHSU.

Tries: Cormier 2, Sinclair, Truscott, Ros
Convs: Smith 2, Zumelzu
Pens: Zumelzu

SHSU 26 Texas State 5

Cormier once again was effective in this game, scoring twice, while the defense shone once more.

And in the final, the Bearkats scored within the first three minutes and by 5 minutes led 19-0. Cormier scored two again, wing Dag Dowuona also bagged a brace, and hooker Drake Torno was also over the tryline twice.

"We stressed to the boys that both teams are playing in the same conditions and altered the game plan some to account for the wet pitch," said Head Coach Ramon Serrano. "We were able to control the final versus Baylor through physicality and depth."
