BC High Impresses in Win over Aspetuck
It was a good weekend for BC High Rugby as the Eagles beat Lincoln-Sudbury 70-7 on Friday and then took care of Aspetuck 43-14.
In Friday's match, prop and captain Mikey Smith scored two tries and the team in general did well to find space and work with good support lines.Eleven different Eagles scored tries.
On Sunday, Aspetuck visited Boston for a non-conference matchup. The game was confrontational but the BC High backline was too polished. Flyhalf Gavin McNicholl opened up the scoring with a scamper in the third minute, and would score again 10 minutes later.
Center Brennan Blind followed up with a try in the corner. Broken play led to the next try when No, 8 Conrad Babka scooped up a loose ball from a tackle and ran 45 meters before executing a perfect pass to free up scrumhalf Braxton Blind. Wing Ryan Esfahanian was in support and Blind found him and put him through for the try.
Fullback Charlie Thomison then scored a hat trick on some beautiful runs to finish the day. Three times Aspetuck pressured BC High on the tryline and all three times the BC defense stood strong and created turnovers. But eventually Aspetuck did get two late tries to mke it 43-14.
"The next step for us will be to adjust to how officials are calling the match," said BC High Head Coach Paul Carty.
That concludes BC High’s non-conference play, which included a Northeast Jesuit Cup title (defeating Fordham Prep, McQuaid, and Fairfield Prep), and wins over Simsbury, Greenwich, and now Aspetuck. BC High are back in action Friday, playing Xaverian Brothers High School.
