USAR Statement Skips Past Details: Sources

The plan to fix what ails USA Rugby's finances will probably look a lot different than outlined in the statement produced bby the USA Rugby Board Goff Rugby Report obtained last week.

USA Rugby's New Plan For Everything

According to sources, the statement carries mistakes above and beyond having the wrong year on the timeline.

Planning It All Along?

The implication that USA Rugby was planning a major overhaul all along is disingenuous, meaning it leaves out additional facts. There has been a push to make a change in USA Rugby on the table for some time, but it wasn't adopted by the Board until last week.

That change, by the way, is going to be drastic, and could substantially change how USA Rugby is organized. The statement in an earlier GRR article saying we think dues will go up is probably wrong. Instead, it's likely USA Rugby's dues will drop, and local organizations will handle the dues structure (so you might end up paying the same as you do now, but most of the money would be kept locally).

Who Takes The Lead?

Who runs the Task Force? Whether you call it a Reorganization Committee or a Task Force or a Rescue Group, no one has been officially slated to run it. USA Rugby CEO Ross Young or CFO Eric Gleason were named as members of the Task Force/Committee, but that's not confirmed, and according to sources, is looking less and less likely each day.

Instead we will see champions of American rugby from outside the organization take the lead.

Business As Usual?

Readers did not like the implication that this will be a case of "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss."* While there's still a lot to come out, and more after World Rugby has had some input, it's looking as if we're going to see new faces, new ideas, and a massive shift in control from one central USA Rugby office to the leagues and organizations around the country.
