Top-Rankings Clash With Lindenwood at CWU
Top-ranked Lindenwood will visit Central Washington Saturday in a clash of possibly the two best women's college teams active right now.
Lindenwood is the #1-ranked team according to Goff Rugby Report and there's not much doubt about that.
But that doesn't mean CWU will roll over. The Wildcats have started well and will look to build on two wins over BYU and a massive shutout of GCU.
"This is a massive weekend for our team and especially our seniors, who we will be honoring on the day," said CWU Head Coach Trevor Richards. "Lindenwood has been the dominant force in women's collegiate rugby for the last few years and we know the challenge that they present. They're physical, they're skilled, and they will punish any and all mistakes. So, we have to be ruthless at the basics, dominate set-piece, and our defense must be relentless for the whole match. We're a little beat up from the last few weeks and unfortunately picked up some injuries to key players, but we are confident in our group and the way we have prepared. We're a young and eager squad that relishes these colossal battles, and we're excited to see how we stack up against the best in the nation."
CWU is young, but effective, with freshman Tessa Hann having scored six tries in only three games, a feat matched by another freshman, Sammy Stern.
The last time these teams met was in February of 2020, with Lindenwood winning 53-29. This season, Lindenwood is 2-0 with a 39-17 win over Life, and a 51-0 win over those same Running Eagles.
