Surprises in MARC D2 Playoffs
Surprises in MARC D2 Playoffs
The MARC had its surprises in the first round of the conference's men's D2 college playoffs.
After GRR went out on a limb saying Scranton was the team to beat in last week's video, and then #8 seed Towson promptly took up the challenge. It was a hard-nosed game and Towson was certainly up for it.
Salisbury is much the same type of team, and at least GRR thought they had a shot. They battled a good Virginia side to a 40-35 decision. It was a tough game for Virginia—a long drive and missing a couple of regulars. Salisbury kicked well and since UVA were missing their regular fullback (and his backup) that set the table for the Sharks to run out to a big lead.
The Cavs rallied but it was a little too late.
Meanwhile on the other side of the bracket, #2 Georgetown and #3 Villanova made it through. Villanova controlled the scenario against Bucknell 47-5. Georgetown got through via forfeit.
So next week we've got the semifinals in Landsville, Pa.
Georgetown will play Villanova in one semifinals and Salisbury will take on Towson.
All four teams will make the NCR playoffs, with the top two going straight to the Round of 16, and the 3rd and 4th teams going to the play-ins.
