Snow Canyon Take One From Red Mountain
After a solid showing at Dennis Storer Classic at UCLA a few weeks ago, Snow Canyon looked to continue building their early success with a quick trip to Arizona.
Because of the relationship between coaches Michael Puriri and OJ Hawea, Snow Canyon has had a long tradition of traveling down to Arizona to play Red Mountain during the preseason for both teams. Throughout the years, some matches have been close, others not so much. This year’s match belonged to Snow Canyon.
The first half was a tight one, with both sides attacking and defending well. Snow Canyon was able to get some early tries on the board before conceding one at the end of the half to Red Mountain and the teams changed ends with Snow Canyon up 19-5.
Snow Canyon shot out the second half gate quickly and never looked back. A dominant, six-try second half ended in a 59-12 victory for the visitors.
“There was no man of the match or one particular boy that stood out," said Snow Canyon Head Coach Michael Puriri. "Everyone did amazing. All the starters and reserves. Everyone played amazing. It was a total team effort.”
Both teams will round out their preseasons by playing at the annual Ra Puriri Invitational held in St. George, Utah at the end of the month.
