Rye Holds Off Georgetown Prep in the Rain
Rye defeated Georgetown Prep 13-0 in very wet conditions. The game was delayed an hour for lightning, but even when the lightning left the rain kept coming.
"We certainly learned a lot about what we need to improve, but overall we are pleased with how our young guys stepped up," said Rye Head Coach Jim O'Hara, with several underclassmen in the starting 15. We were missing a couple of veteran upperclassmen and the young guys stepped up in a challenging situation, on the road, so it’s certainly something we can build upon."
This was a tough defensive game and was played in a good spirit.
"Georgetown runs a first-class program, and their centers played very tough on both attack and defense," said O'Hara. "Tom McHale and Georgetown Prep were great hosts and we look forward to playing them more in the future. A great night of HS rugby."
Rye's sophomore second row combo of Gavin Fitzpatrick and Yusei Koike worked well together in both scrums and lineouts. They were just two examples of young players stepping into key roles. To win on the road this way was an impressive showing for Rye.
