NSCRO Makes Move In Wake Of New USA Rugby Plan
Steve Cohen, President of the National Small College Rugby Organization, issued a statement to members Monday in response to USA Rugby's planned restructuring.
NSCRO is owed money from USA Rugby, as are several other organizations, many of which are unable to pay administrators or others because USA Rugby hasn't forwarded dues monies owed them.
Cohen said NSCRO the new approach at USA Rugby, which emphasized decentralizing governance of the game in the United States, "allows rugby organizations, such as NSCRO, to better control their membership and outcomes."
The NSCRO announcement continued to say that NSCRO is basically separating itself from USA Rugby, taking over its dues and registration, and taking control of its own liability insurance needs.
Quoting from the NSCRO announcement:
NSCRO has been closely monitoring USA Rugby’s financial remediation and reorganization plans. We will ensure that NSCRO receives all past-due membership fees that USA Rugby collected on behalf of NSCRO and that we understand any implications that the USA Rugby changes may have on our members.
Following several months of planning, NSCRO will be activating a new strategy for our members. The unfortunate financial situation at USA Rugby necessitates that NSCRO now becomes self-reliant, with the freedom, flexibility and resources to continue to grow and enhance the college game. The NSCRO Board will take the following steps for the 2020-21 season:
Insource member registration. NSCRO will offer our membership a new registration platform that maintains all of the current functionality and seeks several key improvements to the process.
Identify a new insurance solution. We are committed to providing appropriate insurance to our membership and are confident that we can offer a competitively-priced insurance option to our members.
Broaden our reach. We are reviewing our current structure with the goal of providing our services to a broader collegiate rugby constituency.
As we implement our new strategy, we will actively seek vital feedback from our valued NSCRO community to ensure that we continue to serve small college rugby to the best of our ability.
We are encouraged by the swift actions being taken at a national level, and look forward to collaborating with the new leadership in the future, as we are hopeful, and very excited about the strong future of NSCRO and future of collegiate rugby in America.
