Men D2 College Player of the Week: Finlay Hutton
Our Men's D2 college Player of the Week is Finlay Hutton.
Hutton played flyhalf and scrumhalf for University of Vermont. He's from Scotland, Edinburgh, in fact, but is actually an exchange student from the University of Glasgow. Apparently being in both cities is the linguistic equivalent of offsetting penalties in football—he doesn't have a really noticeable Scottish accent.
But he can play some rugby.
Hutton ran the defense well for Vermont in their tie (and unofficial overtime win) and also scored a crucial try for the team.
His ability to slide through tacklers and take a chance was on display late in the game when his try—after a long period of phases where UMass Lowell defended very well—put Vermont ahead by two scores.
Smart, fitting in well with the team, and talented, he was fun to watch.
