Marist Wins Tri-State 7s
Marist defeated RPI in the final of the Tri-State Conference 7s Sunday in Poughkeepsie, NY.
Marist defended very well and outscored their three pool opponents, Seton Hall, Vassar, and Molloy, 105-5.
Fairfield won Pool B, holding off a determined USMMA in the key game. RPI took Pool C with wins over Hofstra B, WPU/MSU, and SUNY Maritime.
Hofstra's A side won their pool in convincing fashion, giving up just the one try.
In the knockout stages, Vassar beat Fairfield (this was a younger Fairfield team as they are D1) in something of an upset 15-14. RPI beat SUNY Oneonta 35-0 while Hofstra beat SUNY Maritime 33-0. Marist got by the US Merchant Marine Academy impressively 26-5.
That set up some interesting semis, with Marist defeating Vassar 28-5 and RPI holding off Hofstra 21-7.
Marist took the final 21-7.
