GRR: National Teams
SALTA, Argentina (USA Rugby Report) – The USA Rugby Selects coaching staff is utilizing the full travel squad on its current South American Tour as Head Coach Mike Tolkin has announced the starting lineup for the match against Argentina Jaguars Tuesday, April 28.
Getting a Pan-American rugby competition done is no easy feat.
There hasn’t been anything approaching a full-international, cross-continental competition since 2003. And that was the nice but was done in a week and involved just four teams.
The USA Selects claimed an impressive scalp by beating Uruguay in Montevideo with a hometown ref.
Despite being shorthanded for about 40% of the game, the Selects held on 13-3, scoring their one key try while a man short.
The USA Selects pulled off an astounding performance at the Old Christians rugby ground in Uruguay, beating the Uruguayan national team 13-3 in very difficult conditions.
The game was a grand battle, asking much of the physicality of both sides. With little space to work with and the forwards allowed to slow ball down in the rucks, offense was at a premium, and so was scoring.
