The Eagle women are back in the semifinals after two intense and nailbiting clashes ith Great Britain.
Team GB had achieved their best finish in the World Series season last time out, taking 5th, but it had been a weird, up-and-down performance. Great Britain was much more consistent this time around and against the USA were tenacious on defense and opportunistic.
The USA Men's 7s team faltered in pool play in Sydney, losing in rather extravagant fashion to Samoa and Ireland.
The team that had surprise so many in recent weeks seemed to hit a bit of a wall against both of those sides. Just a shade slower to the ball, and not as dominant in the tackle, they found themselves scrambling to get going.
It was tough going for the USA in Day One of the Sydney 7s.

Against Canada the USA was burned early as they fell off, or were bumped off, tackles.
Despite being one of the most consistently good team in the World Series, and now 2nd in the standings, the USA Men's 7s team is by no means in a secure position.
Still 3rd in the Sevens World Series, the USA Women's 7s team is in an excellent position to claim one of the four automatic berths into the 2024 Olympics; but 1st is also on their minds.
