High School Girls
Rugby New York is hosting its girls high school state championship this weekend, and three Buffalo-area teams will look to unseat current titleholder Play Rugby Academy over two days in Utica.
To help the USA Women 7s team prepare for next weekend’s NACRA Olympic qualifier, 12 elite high school players have taken residence at the Olympic Training Center for the week. These young athletes could very well be the next generation of Eagle 7s players, so let’s take a closer at those all-stars in Chula Vista right now:
North Central won its 10th Indiana girls high school state championship, marking the team’s 7th consecutive title. But despite the 32-17 decision over Penn, which had finished third at the Midwest Championship, the game was not a one-sided affair.
The Panthers were tested early on and found themselves on the losing end of a 10-0 scoreline.
West End ended its third-ever 15s season with a DI Virginia state championship.
Penn State and Cal weren’t the only teams to repeat championships in Chester, Pa., today, as the New Jersey Blaze outlasted Doylestown 14-7 in the Girls High School Rugby Challenge (HSRC) for its second consecutive championship.
