Boys HS Rugby starts to wake up after a long winter sleep for many states as the weather gets better.

It’s coming for many municipalities and schools to make March 1 the cutoff for us of fields, so the late February weekends are good for preseason tournaments.

So we come to several leagues just getting started:

The Southern California Varsity White division comes down to one game, as View Park Prep plays St. John Bosco Saturday in the final.

Both teams have improved drastically from the early going, as they got a few players back from football duty and injuries. At one point 2-2, View Park got it going at just the right time, beating Dana Hills and Mission Vista in high-offense efforts.

So early in the season we’ve still got two of the top Texas Boys HS teams facing off this weekend, as Dallas Jesuit (3-0) plays 2-0 Westlake.

Dallas Jesuit is actually 5-0, having beaten Memorial and Strake Jesuit in non-league games, as well as defeating Plano, Richardson, and Alliance. Only the Alliance game was particularly decisive.

Two of the top single-school teams in Northern California clashed Wednesday night in a midweek encounter as Jesuit took on Dixon.

Both were unbeaten in early play, so this was a big statement game for both.

It was a tough game, with Dixon causing Jesuit some trouble and forcing them into mistakes, but Jesuit was able to score twice to lead 14-5 at halftime.

The moment came after Brian Nault scored a try against Upright Rugby Rogues in pool play at the HS Elite 7s at the LVI. The Shelton, Wash. 15s loose forward and 7s prop had scored an uncharacteristic try for the HS All Americans, bursting down the sidelines like a wing after being set up nicely by his teammates.
