High School Boys
NIT invitees East and Herriman met Saturday at Herriman HS in a game with huge implications in league standings in Utah’s Single School Tier 1 division. With both teams entering the game ranked in the top 10 nationally, the game had the makings of an instant classic, and it did not disappoint.
Twenty-four teams will compete in the 2019 Boys HS Rugby National Championships.
The competition will be held at the RAC in Salt Lake City, Utah, and will consist of three games for each team over three days, May 16-18.
The Penn Invite, in its 14th year, saw 21 HS teams from Indiana and nearby states in a preseason effort at the Moose Rugby Grounds in Elkhart, IN.
Every team played two short games to see different opponents, with Boys and Girls teams both seeing action.
Georgetown Prep opened MAVRC league play with convincing wins over St Benedictine (VA) and DeMatha 79-0 and 45-0 respectively. Injuries, illness and scheduling also meant 9 new starters rotated into the line ups giving Prep's bench the opportunity for minutes and development.
The rankings have been shifting all over, with Gonzaga and Xavier trading the #1 spot in Single-School and Danville, Lamorinda, and now Granite Bay at #1 in the club rankings.
That Northern California Premier league is insane, because Danville entered this weekend winless (and about to face #3 single-school Jesuit), and Danville is a truly excellent team. Crazy.
