High School Boys
In something of a barnburner in Southern California high school action, Wilson High School held off a determined and very skilled Saint Anthony's HS 32-22 Friday night.
Both teams are under the umbrella of the Belmont Shore Rugby Club, and will forward players to the Belmont Shore HS Club, and so this game showed that Belmont Shore will likely be formidable later this spring.
Twenty-four teams are expected to suit up this weekend in the Southern California Boys Varsity White league, and this is really the first big weekend of action.
After firing one last salvo about the high school game, USA Rugby's VP of Rugby Operations, Kurt Weaver, is apparently leaving the organization.
In a Facebook post today, Weaver said:
"Today is my last day with USA Rugby, it's been a true privilege to serve the game with the national organization. Now on to the next project!"
Things only get more difficult for St. John Bosco as the SCIRF league moves on. Four games are on the slate for this weekend, and all four have significant implications.
With timing that is flat-out weird, USA Rugby has announced the Regional Cup Tournaments for 2020.
