The San Diego Mustangs made the trip to Arizona to take on Tempe Saturday, and came away with a nice 27-19 win.
Tempe has started very well and cone a game on Thursday, beating Tucson 39-21 in a game they led 39-0 at halftime before running in the changes. But the Mustangs, getting the OK from SoCal Youth Rugby to tour, was a different proposition.
The Tropical 7s week, which culminates in the tournament April 2-3, is looking nicely put together, but there are still spots open.
As more regions become more open to training and play, more teams are able to get themselves ready.
It's a tight race in the Louisiana HS league as both games this weekend were decided by a try or less, and in fact three of the four league games this year have been that close.
This week, St. Paul's opened their season with a nicely-taken 33-26 defeat of the Bayou Hurricanes. That put Bayou at 0-2-1 although the Hurricanes have certainly played some good rugby.
The Charlotte Tigers put a tenacious St. Ignatius to the sword Saturday, beating the Wildcats 46-7 in an early-season high rankings clash.
The Tigers had played one weekend of shortened games, while St. Ignatius was playing its first gamer in about a year as the two teams met in Morgantown, WV to kick-start their season.
While there are several high school rugby teams playing a little on the down-low, there are leagues and tours that have been approved by governing bodies, and teams that have secured their own insurance to get the job done.
