High School Boys
It wasn't a huge weekend for games, especially among school teams, but we did see a few that prompted moves.
Cardinal Moeller was very impressive in the Rugby Ohio playoffs and that, along with a close loss to St. Ignatius earlier, moves them up. Dwenger, which lost to Moeller in a close one some months ago, follows thanks in part to their solid weekend.
Unranked Carmel HS pulled off a bit of an upset in the Rugby Indiana D1 finals, beating #23 HS Club Pendleton in overtime to win the state tournament.
t couldn't have been more exciting and dramatic.
Royal Irish took the Rugby Indiana Super League title Monday, beating a tenacious Bishop Dwenger 32-21.
Led by a playoff MVP performance by flyhalf Tommy Hannon, and with prop Andy Guhl leading the way up front, Royal Irish put in a very strong defensive performance. However, when they made errors, Dwenger was only too happy to capitalize.
Gonzaga defeated Vienna this weekend in a clash of the #5 school team and the #29 HS club.
The game itself was rough on Vienna as a red card and general indiscipline undercut their performance. Too many errors also didn't help as Gonzaga was more cohesive and put together and eventually won out 35-15.
Menlo-Atherton produced a very nice performance in beating HS Club #17 Granite Bay 29-24 Saturday.
