High School Boys
As the Boys HS Rugby National Championships loom, and the much-anticipated seedings loom even closer (!), here's a look at what happened over the weekend.
Woodlands Rugby hosted the Kansas City Jr. Blues and the Mexico City Aztecas this weekend, as two teams going to the National Championships sought some challenging warmup competition.
In the end, both Woodlands and KC won their games against the Aztecas, and Woodlands, ranked #4 by GRR, also defeated #23-ranked Kansas City.
High school rugby programs around the country keep trying to find a way to get to the next step.
In typical dramatic fashion the Southern California Youth Rugby HS championships was decided by a razor-thin margin, as Thunder Rugby edged the SOC Raptors 14-12 Saturday.
This was the third time these teams had played. In March in a preseason clash Thunder had won 12-7, while in their league game May 14 the Raptors had emerged victorious 24-21. This time, it was even closer.
St. Ignatius won the 2021 Rugby Ohio Boys Super Elite final defeated a dogged Moeller HS side 22-8 Saturday night at Fortess Obetz in the Columbus area.
In a game that seemed to be on a knife edge the whole way, Ignatius took its scoring chances slightly better than Moeller, the Cincinnati side kept the result in doubt until the very end.
