Tempe defeated Red Mountain in the Arizona Boys HS D1 final Friday night, taking the game and the championship 34-21.
It was a windy evening and Red Mountain started with the breeze at their backs. However, they had difficulty making it work for them. An eager Tempe defense put pressure on Red Mountain and that produced turnovers and mistakes.
Gonzaga had to work for it to get by St. Edward Saturday, ultimately coming away with a 36-21 victory.
Newly bumped to the GRR #11 spot, St. Edward showed why they were there with a tenacious performance that saw them almost equal with the vaunted #1 Eagles after a lousy start.
The St. Louis University High School rugby varsity team, the Footybills, secured a 38-7 victory against the St. Louis Jets on April 27 in a league game that showcased success on both ends of the field.
The St. Augustine Hermits out of New Jersey pulled off a big result Friday night, beating Georgetown Prep 24-14 in a cross-border clash.
The Hermits went into the game ranked #48 but GRR, having moved up following a shutout win over Delbarton. Georgetown Prep was ranked #24. So this was an important showing by St. Augustine.
Every week we post scores and every week we miss some.
It's the nature of the business, but we're working hard to get as many scores out there as we can.
Early midweek notes: Green bay got tested by the Chargers in Wisconsin. St. Augustine pulled off a big result over Georgetown Prep, and Herriman beat East.
