The San Diego Mustangs defeated the SOC Raptors 31-14 in Southern California action.
Led by another massive game from lock Dylan Fortune, the Mustangs improved to 3-1 in Southern California league play, while the Raptors dropped to 2-2. Both sides have lost to Belmont Shore, who have started the season 3-0 and had no league game this week because they were attending the Tropical 7s.
In a fascinating game that went right down to the wire, #12 HS club team, SFGG, almost ... almost beat #2 school team De La Salle.
Vienna won their first ever game over in-state rivals Fort Hunt Saturday, riding a torrid start and a disciplined finish to a 33-5 decision.
The victory was for more than bragging rights as the winner was guaranteed a spot at the Boys HS Rugby National Championships. Vienna, which played in Tier 2 of nationals last year, grabbed that opportunity with both hands.
Neuqua defeated South Suburban 27-7 in Rugby Illinois action Friday night.
Both teams started this one with younger lineups forced by a couple of key injuries amid rebuilding seasons. Match conditions weren't conducive to a flowing game with wind gusts up to 40 mph and very soft turf from recent storms that made going a slow, tough, muddy affair.
It's a relatively quiet weekend in Boys HS rugby this week because, of course, it's Easter Weekend.
