At GRR we talk a lot about playing outside your region and touring—the education you get is hugely valuable, and playing tougher competition teaches your players that there is always another level.
Sometimes, though, you find out that there are several levels. And that’s good for the entire country.
We continue to get some really out-of-the-blue results.
Fairfield Prep's dropping out of the Top 50 was the result of a not-great showing at the Gonzaga Classic. But then they come back and beat Greenwich. That's almost part for the course for Greenwich, which beat Xavier bu a lot but lost to Rye, beat Aspetuck but lost to Fairfield Prep, who lost to Vienna and BC High and Staples.
Charlotte Cardinals beat Charlotte Tigers 50-7 to secure their third successive North Carolina State Championship.
In the semifinals, these teams dispatched the Raleigh Redhawks and Clayton Cobras respectively, and this was a high quality contest as one would expect in a state final.
The Richmond Strikers won the Rugby Virginia championship defeating Fort Hunt 45-39 Saturday.
This capped off a very good season for Richmond in which they love to play fast—a 45-39 scoreline is definitely a Strikers-like scoreline.
The Eastside Lions will play Camas in the Washington state Boys HS final after the Lions won this weekend.
Eastside were already set to play in the final, as they entered the final regular-season game at 7-0. But Camas, idle this weekend, were hoping Liberty would lose this game. Had Liberty won, the Patriots would have been 4-3-1, just ahead of Camas at 4-4.
